We're used to sharks attacking swimmers — but in the popular new online game Sydney Shark, even Qantas jets are at risk of a fatal chomp.

In the game, players control the man-eater as it unleashes a wave of cartoonish violence on Sydney Harbour, killing swimmers, parachutists, cruise ship passengers and orcas before finally detonating a nuclear bomb.

Sydney Shark players are given extra points if they manage to drag a Qantas plane into the water and cause it to explode.

A Qantas spokesman told ninemsn they had looked at the game and were not concerned enough to take any legal action at this stage.

"We like to think we have a sense of humour but we also take any non-supervised use of our brand very seriously," the spokesman said.

"We haven't had the opportunity to play the game right through, but superficially there is nothing that causes major concern.

"Should we find anything, we would do whatever is necessary to protect our iconic brand."

Sydney Shark, which was created by German game developer Felix Wiesner, has quickly become one of the most popular Flash-based games on the web since its release last month.

It is a sequel to the similar game Miami Shark — in which a shark wreaks havoc in the canals of the Florida city.
